Password recovery

What "password recovery" does and does not cover.

There are two separate passwords in Unimatrix: your account login password (used to sign in to the dashboard) and your encryption password (used to encrypt/decrypt memory content). The "Forgot password?" flow on the Sign In page only resets your account login password.

Your encryption password cannot be reset or recovered by Unimatrix under any circumstances, because we never store it — not even in encrypted form. If you lose it, memories encrypted under that password remain encrypted permanently; there is no support ticket or account-verification process that can restore access.

To avoid this, store your encryption password in a password manager the moment you set it, and consider keeping an offline backup of it as well.

If you have lost your encryption password and need to start fresh, you can set a new one going forward — this will not recover old memories, but new memories will save normally under the new password.
